Course Title

INTRODUCTION TO SPATIAL STATISTICS

Course Description

This course counts for both ENVL elective and GIS Certification elective credits. Spatial statistics are applied to a broad range of disciplines in both natural and social sciences. The course introduces primary methods of spatial data analysis for patterns, trends, and relationships. It focuses on technology applications rather than mathematics. It is designed to advance problem-solving skills using GIS technology including geostatistical interpolation (kriging), EBK prediction, spatial regression, cluster analysis, and space-time analysis. Students finishing the class are expected to be able to process spatial data for meaningful insight and effective communication about the pattern, trend, and/or relationship of natural or social phenomena.
